A second attempt to assassinate Trump failed

Another attempt to kill former US President Donald Trump has failed. Trump is safe after an assassination attempt on his Florida golf course.

US officials have confirmed that a ‘potential suspect’ is in custody in the incident. Secret Service agents saw the barrel of a rifle in the bushes and opened fire on the suspect, officials said.

According to the FBI, Trump was 275 to 455 meters away at the time. An AK47 style rifle and scope, two backpacks and a GoPro camera were found at the scene.

After the agents opened fire, witnesses reported that the suspect fled through bushes and jumped into a black Nissan car.

Meanwhile, in an email sent to his supporters, Trump said he was ‘safe’. ‘Nothing will stop me,’ he wrote, ‘I will never surrender!’

The incident comes almost two months after a gunman tried to kill Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. At that time, only his ear was injured.
