Kennedy’s popularity, once polling between 14 and 16 percent, declined with the candidacy of Kamala Harris.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent candidate for the White House, has endorsed Republican Party candidate and former President Donald Trump. After withdrawing from the presidential election race on November 5, he attended Trump’s rally in Arizona.
70-year-old Robert Jr. of the Kennedy family, who has been a member of the Democratic Party for a long time, claimed that he was forced to leave the Democratic Party because of the party’s principles and was forced to support Trump.
Before speaking, Robert Jr. of the Arizona rally said that if he is elected, Trump will make public all the remaining documents related to the assassination of former US President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Robert Jr., the nephew of former American President John F. Kennedy, is the son of Senator Robert Kennedy. Senator Robert was assassinated in 1968.
Later, during a rally held in Glendale, California, Trump also praised Robert Jr. as an “unprecedented” and “brilliant” politician. But Kamala Harris, the presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, has said that she will try to ‘earn’ the support of Kennedy’s voters.
As the date of the presidential election approached, Robert Jr.’s campaign was weakening. Due to this, the voter support for him decreased drastically. But his support for the Republican candidate, Trump, has angered his supporters and relatives.
Sister Kerry Kennedy said Robert Jr. had betrayed the values his father and the Kennedy family held most dear by supporting Trump. “It’s a sad ending to a sad story,” she said.
But Robert Jr. claimed that ‘Trump’s promise to end the Ukraine war by negotiating with Russia will justify his support’. ‘There are still many issues and points of view on which we have serious differences. But we are united on other main issues,’ he said.
Robert Jr. has said that he will remove his name from 10 states that will spoil Trump for his reasons. Earlier, he has withdrawn his name from the states of Arizona and Pennsylvania, which he considered to be very competitive. But according to election officials, it is too late for him to pull out of swing states including Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin.
Launching his presidential campaign in August 2023, Robert Jr. said that ‘as a Democrat, my father, my uncle…were champions of the Constitution’. He said that he was leaving because the Democratic Party had become a party of ‘war, censorship, corruption, technology and money’.
At his peak, polls showed him garnering 14 to 16 percent of the vote. But since Haris became the candidate of the Democratic Party, the number of candidates supporting him has dropped to 1 point. Earlier, during a press conference, he had also offered to work with Haris. But the Democrats are said to have ignored him.
