Bangladesh Army chief announces formation of interim government

Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar Uz-Zaman has announced the formation of an interim government.

Thousands of people gathered in Dhaka on Monday on the call of protesting students against the reservation (quota system) in government jobs. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country after they moved towards their official residence.

Shortly after Hasina left the country, army chief Uj-Zaman held a press conference and said that an interim government would be formed.

He said that the president as well as the opposition parties have held talks with the civil society to form the interim government. But he did not name Hasina’s party Awami League.
