‘Tapaswi’ Ram Bahadur Bamjan, known as Little Buddha, was born at a place called Bunjar in Ratajpuri gavis, Nijgarh Municipality 12 Sabik.
B.S. Born in 2046 to mother Maya Tamang and father Bir Bahadur Bamjan, he is the son of Saila among five brothers.
His followers have claimed that 34-year-old Ram Bahadur Bamjan left home on 2nd June 2062 while studying in class 3 and started penance. He started penance in the Charkose forest of Halkhoria, a few km away from home, and has been controversial since the beginning.
Sometimes it is about taking hostages for those who speak against them, sometimes it is about beating up common people and journalists or about stopping sacrifices at the Gadhimai fair. In such activities Bamjan is sometimes himself and sometimes religious gurus or followers who have faith in him are involved.
Bamjan, who is known as an ascetic, has been in controversy since the beginning. In the year 2072, Bamjan tied up Uttim Guro and Sonam Kumar, two youths of Charkose Halkhoria Nijgarh Municipality 11, for drunkenness and talking wildly all night.
There was a clash between the locals and Bamjan’s followers who reached Halkhoria, the place of penance, to rescue those who were tied up. During the clash, driver Rup Bahadur Thing of Bamjan and followers Samir Gurung of Lamjung and a boy named Nagaraj were injured. The victims of the double clash accused the locals who had reached Halkhoria after Bamjan hit them with a stick.
Some officials of the Bodhi Shravan Dharma Sangh, active for the protection of Bamjan, kept two women, including foreign nationals, hostage for three months on accusations of witchcraft. The police used force to rescue a woman named Mata (Ani) from Sindhupalchok Ghar and living in Nijgarh, and Takak Susana, who was called Marichi from Swalovak, while injured and robbed.
Bamjan was accused of arresting and beating up 17 civilians of Manharwa who went to Halkhoria forest to pick mushrooms.
After trying to change his name and get citizenship and passport because of a call from abroad, Bara’s followers protested by blocking East-West Mahendra Highway for a long time after the district administration office did not do it.
Although his customary name was Ram Bahadur Bamjan in his village home, he later changed his name to ‘Dharmasangh Bamjan’ but was stopped by the administration when he tried to apply for citizenship.
Locals of Ratanpuri have said that the incident of Bamjan beating up his own sister Asli and mother Mayadevi and another princess for not being granted citizenship has been made public.
Under the patronage of ascetic Bamjan, the founding president of Bodhi Shravan Dharma Sangh, Bed Bahadur Thing, has claimed that ascetic Ram Bahadur Bamjan was a person who gained knowledge through penance. He accused the state of doing unnecessary controversy to Tapaswi Bamjan.
Thing argued that it was not right to take control of the guru by making him controversial instead of giving him equal respect by cherishing the knowledge he had acquired.
Bara Superintendent of Police Suresh Kafle has said that there have been complaints against Ram Bahadur Bamjan, who is known as an ascetic, of beatings and body hostages. Kafle said that the Bara police will also proceed with the action process based on the complaints filed earlier.
