After Iran’s attack on Israel, the possibility of a direct war in the Middle East has increased. Iran fired more than 200 cruise missiles on Israel and claimed that most of its missiles hit their target. However, Israel says that it shot down most of the missiles in the air. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to retaliate against Iran. He said that “Iran has made a big mistake and it will have to pay the price for it…” Immediately after Iran’s attack, America announced help to Israel.
If there is a direct war between Iran and Israel, which countries can support both? Let’s take a look
Which countries are with Israel?
America: US President Joe Biden, close to Israel, has said that he is in “active discussions” with allies to respond to Iran. “There is no doubt that the United States fully supports Israel,” the US President said at the start of a meeting with officials at the White House. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the Iranian missile attack “completely unacceptable” and said the whole world should condemn it.
UK: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that his country also supports Israel’s right to self-defense. He said that “Iran has endangered the Middle East for too long…” In a televised statement after the attack, Starmer said that Iran’s missile attack has “put the region at risk”. He has spoken to Israeli PM Netanyahu, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. UK Defense Chief John Healey also said that the British army has helped Israel in preventing missile attack from Iran.
France: France is sending additional military resources to West Asia to counter the Iranian threat. The French President said, “Committed to the security of Israel, France mobilized its military resources in West Asia to counter the Iranian threat after an emergency security cabinet meeting today.”
Japan: Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said on Wednesday that Iran’s missile attacks on Israel are “unacceptable”. Japan strongly condemns it. We would like to cooperate (with the United States) to calm the situation and prevent it from escalating into a full-blown war.
Germany: Israel’s longtime ally Germany demanded that Iran immediately stop its provocative actions. “I strongly condemn this attack. Iran must immediately stop the attack as it is leading the region towards the abyss,” Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock posted on X.
Australia: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned Iran’s missile attack on Israel and called for de-escalation of tensions. “We are very concerned by Iran’s actions, so we condemn them…” he told reporters in Melbourne on Wednesday. He said Israel has a right to defend itself.
Which countries are with Iran?
Russia: Iran and Russia have had relations for decades. The biggest reason for this is that both are opposed to Western ideas. In recent times, both have come closer. After the fight with Ukraine, Iran has reportedly given weapons and other things to Russia. One more thing is important to note. Iran attacked Israel when Russian PM Mikhail Mishustin visited Tehran earlier this week. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a post on Telegram, “The Biden administration has completely failed in the Middle East…”
Turkey: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday condemned Israel’s ground operation in Lebanon and urged the United Nations and other international organizations to stop Israel “without wasting time”. Erdogan has been a frequent critic of Israel. He recently compared Netanyahu to Nazi Germany’s Adolf Hitler, saying, “I openly say that the Israeli leadership, acting with hysteria and pure religious fanaticism, will set its sights on our homeland after Palestine and Lebanon…”
China: In discussions with senior Iranian officials last month, China’s two top diplomats expressed support for Tehran amid the growing prospect of a wider conflict between Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. He said Tehran has Beijing’s support in protecting its “sovereignty, security, territorial integrity and national dignity”.
Lebanon: There has always been a rift between Israel and Lebanon. It is close to Iran. Iran also attacked Israel after the death of Hezbollab chief Hassan Nasrallah, who operates from Lebanon.
Yemen: When Israel launched a campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iran-backed Houthi rebels of Yemen came forward. They launched an unsuccessful attack on Israel. Yemen’s Houthi rebels, standing with Iran, are an important player in the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Syria: Iran has stood with Syria as well. It has offered help and support to Iran on several occasions.
